Here’s a handful of happenings I feel are worth mentioning:

1. Jira Work Management

Atlassian announced the evolution of Jira Core as Jira Work Management. Managing work is near and dear to my heart – as important as project management! – so seeing this rebrand and extension of their core offering (see what I did there?) was a welcome surprise.

What is Jira Work Management? – This is the first Jira built for business teams, by business teams. A new Jira experience directly with customer design partners of all sizes and industries, as well as internal Atlassian teams of every type.

What are the changes? – Three brand-new views (list, timeline, and calendar), beautiful forms, delightful background colors, and a packed roadmap to follow them up. All designed specifically for business teams and the way they work.

2. Atlassian to rename Next-gen to team-managed projects

Next-gen projects will be named team-managed projects. The functionality itself remains the same and will continue to be ideal for independent teams who want to control their own working processes and practices in a self-contained space.

Classic projects will be named company-managed projects. Setup and maintained by Jira admins, company-managed projects will remain the best choice for teams who want to work with other teams across many projects in a standard way, such as sharing a workflow.

3. Jira Data Center 8.16 was released

Released March 23rd, the latest version of Jira DC supports multiple Identity Providers for those who need it. There’s also further indexing improvements

4. Data Residency coming to more Cloud plans

The ability to store your data in specific geographic locations is coming to Standard and Premium plans. Currently it’s only available on Cloud Enterprise plans.

Include data residency capabilities (Jira Software, Confluence, Jira Service Management) as part of Standard and Premium cloud plans, in addition to the Enterprise plan. ETA: Q3-Q4 2021.
